BUYING & REDIRECTING DOMAINS

Buy Your Domain Name

You want to own your own name! You can buy domain names from many different sources. I prefer GoDaddy. I also suggest buying all domain names from one source so you can manage them much more easily. I made the mistake of jumping around buying from the least expensive source. What a nightmare! Do yourself the favor and just buy your domains from GoDaddy. IT will serve you well.

In the upper right corner you will see grayed out “Start Domain Search”. Type in your name and then “.com” after it and the result will come up if it is available or not. You can expect to pay approx $10.69 w/ tax for a “.com” extension. (Note: You can start off with a very inexpensive extension “.info” for $1.17 w/ tax.) These prices are for a full year’s use of these domain names.

Redirecting Your New Domain

Once you purchase your new domain name you will redirect it to whatever page you create your PIP (Personal Identity Page) on. We will come back to this after we do this step of deciding where this will be. My suggestion to get started if you don’t want to be able to do this at no cost – I suggest using http://myspace.com . You can use Facebook but I don’t feel FB’s profile page offers the flexibility you may want to have. However, some people don’t like the stigma Myspace has. Personally, I could care less what anyone thinks. Myspace ranks well on Google (or at least it use to). This will be temporary anyway because we will be moving your PIP to what is now referred to as your “NERVE CENTER”. We use a Blog framework to create our Nerve Center in.

Depending on how you came to receive this information you may have already experienced my Nerve Center:  http://johnpiro.com
